Wax Melt FAQ's
Do wax melts lose their scent?
Let’s get a bit technical with this! Our wax melts have gone through months of testing to give optimum scent throw, after burning the scent will weaken. When we talk about scent throw, we have 2 types, “hot” throw, and “cold” throw. Hot throw is the release of fragrance once warmed by a burner, whereas cold throw tends to be the fragrance at room temperature.
Our wax melts last from 6-12 hours, depending on lots of different things. Scent type (some of our scents are stronger than others), size of the wax melt itself, and whether you burn yours continuously or in intervals.
Wax melts fragrance dissipates over time, rather than evaporates. The hotter the warmer the more intense the scent will be, meaning a shorter release time for the scent. You can read about which burner is best to use, by clicking here.
How do I get the most out of my wax melts?
We get it, you want to get the absolute most out of your wax melts. I hear you. We’ve got some top tips for you…
The first and most effective one is if you cut the wax melt in half they will last longer. As our wax melts are highly fragranced you can still get the same effect with just half a wax melt heart and your box of 16 will last a lot longer. It’s a win win situation!
Also, this may seem like an obvious one, but we recommend only burning the wax melt when you are in the room, as tempting as it is to light up the burner and get that lovely scent going (trust me I’ve been there) you are not going experience the deliciousness if you’re not in the room!
Another way to get the most out of your wax melts is to generally burn them for 2-3 hours at a time, again I know it is extremely tempting to continue to burn because the scent is just too good! But if you can limit the amount of time, you will get more out of them.
What kind of wax do you use?
We are all about loving and caring for the environment at Fosse and we want to work with natural and renewable materials when creating our wax melts. Enter soy wax! There are so many benefits to using this type of wax which is why we love working with it. Making products that are suitable for vegans and vegetarians is a top priority for us.
Using soy wax means that our vegan wax melts tend to burn cleaner and longer as there are no nasty toxins in there! It is 100% natural vegetable wax made from the oil of soybeans, making it a carbon neutral product (yay!). You can enjoy our products knowing our lovely planet hasn’t been impacted.
Soy wax is a lot softer than most other waxes and is easier to clean, which is just the dream! Warm soapy water will do the trick. This makes it easier to change your scents over when it’s time for something new.

What to do with old wax melts?
The time has come, it is a sad moment, but unfortunately, they don’t last forever ☹
When it’s time for a change there are a couple of easy ways to clean out your burner so that it is ready to go for your next scent (woohoo!).
You can pop the used burner in the freezer and wait a couple of our hours until the used wax will pop right off. Another option, (my favorite one) is to turn the burner upside down and run it underneath the hot tap, the used wax will come loose after a few minutes. As we use soy was, it is a lot softer than other waxes, so it is easier to clean.
Once the old wax comes loose, give the burner a wipe with warm soapy water and you can dispose of it (natural wax takes just 2-4 weeks to biodegrade). You can read our blog on how to clean your burner, by clicking here.
Now I think it is time to buy some new wax melts!
