A Deep Dive Into Wax Melts

Our range of long lasting scented wax melts have over 5000+ 5 Star Reviews from customers all over the world. We believe they simply cannot be beaten in terms of strength and lasting power. All while being hand-made in the UK and having zero plastic in the packaging. Since our launch in 2020, we have had so many happy customers who absolutely love our wax melts and keep coming back for more. Our mission back then was to create the best quality melts with no plastic packing (we were also one of the first in the UK to do this!). The process of hand-packing each individual heart in the box may take us longer. We believe it’s worth it. Most companies use plastic clamshells for their melts. We believe this is not only bad for the environment, but not necessary in 2023. We are also passionate about customer service, so each order from us receives a handwritten thank you note. Because without you – there would be no Fosse Living and we are forever grateful for that fact. We offer Free UK Shipping with no minimum spend when you shop with us for your melts.

Our wax melts contain a special blend of soy and rapeseed wax. Both are completely natural and chosen specifically for their burn quality and for how well they retain fragrance. We developed our formula to lock in the scent so it does not leech out over time. Many companies use paraffin wax for their melts. This is a byproduct of crude oil and is ultimately not good or sustainable for the environment. We have stayed well away from this as we believe it’s more important than ever to be mindful of our environment impact.

When creating our wax melt formula, it was so important to us that they are safe to burn around pets. We make all of our wax melts with a natural wax formula that doesn’t contain any nasty toxins. All of our fragrance oils are of the highest quality and fall into the safe usage in the wax melt category. Just be mindful that they are not safe for pets to eat, so keep them out of reach!

It’s super important to us to keep our range exciting for our customers. Which is why we are always on the hunt for new scents to add to the collection. Do you have a wax melt scent idea for us? Great! Email or call us, we would love to hear your ideas.

Our melts are fantastic value for money because each box contains 16 individual highly scented melts. Each lasting up to 6-8 hours depending on your room size and burner type. This means that you can get up to 128 hours of scent per box! We also have a custom box option that allows you to pick any four scents in one box. This is the perfect opportunity to try new scents or give a unique gift to a loved one. It’s also worth mentioning that not only do we offer Free UK Shipping on all UK orders with no minimum spend, but we also have regular sales and offers on our website. We may be a tad biased, but we truly believe no company out there is doing wax melts like us. Our melts are unique in that they are very highly concentrated in scent, so one small wax melt really packs a punch in your burner. Not only this, but we have specifically chosen not to take the easy route with our packaging. Most companies pour wax directly into plastic clamshells. However, for us hand pouring and hand packing each individual heart takes us more time and effort. This is so worth it, not only is it less messy for you to use (No manually breaking snap bars and getting waxy fingers!) it also looks better in presentation and is better for the environment.

Typically, you can expect one of our wax melt hearts to last around 6-8 hours. Sometimes less and sometimes more depending on lots of factors. These factors include what scent you are burning (for example, some of our scents are more naturally subtle than others (for example you’d expect French Vanilla to emit a more delicate scent, whereas lemongrass is zingy and very potent). Other factors include what burner you’re using (they are all different!). Also, the size of room/house you are scenting with our melts.

You can increase the longevity of your wax melt by using one at a time rather than two and consider using an electric burner instead of a tealight one. Tealight burners tend to emit a stronger scent because they create more heat in the dish. Electric burners usually emit a slightly weaker scent but can increase the longevity of your wax melt as it does not get as hot. It’s all down to personal preference of what you’d prefer to use for your wax melt!

A lot of people expect the wax from a wax melt to gradually disappear from the dish, much like candles. This is a common misconception about melts, and a question we get asked about a lot. As melts do not contain a wick, the wax cannot be burned off and instead stays in the dish. Unlike candles, wax melts work by adding to a burner (either tealight or electric). Clean out the dish when there is no more fragrance left.

Yes, wax melts can be used again and again simply until there is no longer scent being released. Just be mindful that you don’t let your burner dish get too full of wax before clearing it out. Always used in a supervised setting, just like you would with a scented candle – always be mindful of safety first.

Every burner will have different usage instructions, so we recommend you read and follow them before using. Some oil burners for example may be too small for melts. Or the dish may be too close to the tealight (meaning the wax would get too hot). So, just worth being mindful of this. All the burners we sell on our website are suitable for use with melts.

Yes, over time it’s possible that the fragrance oil can start to degrade. Therefore the melts lose their scent in the box. That’s why we work in small batches so that we don’t overproduce melts and risk them going off. We make our wax melts very stable, and the use of the box stops light from getting to them, this increases their shelf life as UV generally degrades most things over time.

We think that this very much depends on where you buy them from. Here are just some things we are doing to reduce the environmental impact of our melts: zero plastic in our packaging, unique natural wax formula, and carbon-neutral deliveries.

No, wax melts should not emit a grey or black smoke at all. If you see this at any point then it’s possible your burner isn’t compatible with melts and you should turn it off immediately. However, if you see some clear/white smoke-like vapor when a wax tart is burning, this is completely safe for melts that have been made in a natural wax (like ours are).

A term we use a lot and not surprising if you don’t know what it means! We use this term in the home fragrance industry to describe how much scent is released from a product (this can be melts, candles, reed diffusers etc). If you are looking for wax melts with a strong scent throw, shop here today.

The main difference of a melt and a candle is the way you use them. With wax melts you need to put them in a wax melter or burner but you need to light a candle. Wax melts typically are stronger than candles. This makes them a good option if you enjoy fragrance in your home regularly as they tend to be the cheaper option of the two. They both ultimately have the same purpose, to make your home smell incredible. It’s all down to personal preference at the end of the day!

Absolutely! Our melts make beautiful gift boxes, and not just for Christmas. Perfect for treating your loved ones for birthdays, anniversaries, special occasions, baby showers and more.
